The Parisien kindergarden, Ecole Maternelle Javelot, designed by Eva Samuel architects and associates, is the first school in Paris to be constructed with a ‘green’ climate plan. It is surrounded by high rise buildings yet it stands out by its distinctively playful colour scheme.

The exceptionally thick facade of the low-rise structure serves the double purpose of insulation and climate control as well as providing privacy for the
interior. The bright pink aluminium cladding of the openings in a variety of reliefs  have an iridescent nature. The ventilation shafts and climate control
systems are all installed on the roof, together with similar brightly coloured skylights which admit natural daylight into the interior.

The interior is devoid of colour apart from the natural wood used in the window openings and lowered ceilings. The way that children play and use a space has been redefined by the large recesses created by the thickness of the walls, which they use as mini playrooms.
