Another example of the simplicity of Scandinavian architecture is Archipelago House by Tham and Videgard Arkitekter, which is situated on one of a group of islands in the Swedish archipelago. The low lying building sits between two rocks in a secluded area which looks out onto the Baltic sea.

The entire structure of wood and glass relates strongly with the environment, the dark exterior and protected terraces mirror the nearby forests. The asymmetrical facade with picture windows leading from the living area at the front of the home, looks out onto the stunning seascape. Small bedrooms at the rear of the house are protected from the elements, an important factor with the climatic conditions of the region.

The interior is furnished in a contemporary minimal mode so loved in the northern climes, and the whole structure provides a sense of harmony and relaxation which one would expect in a rural getaway home.
