The Romanian architectural firm of Parasite Studio is responsible for this contemporary 230 sq.m. family home located in Timisoara, Romania. Black on White is simplicity itself, the theme of a dark box on the upper level which houses the private quarters of the family and the living areas on the ground floor.
A system of white walls links the interior and exterior through the creation of five courtyards which culminate in a rear garden complete with orchard. The open planning of the lower level allows for flexibility of usage and exudes a sense of brightness and communication, a perfect energy for family life. Minimalistic elegance rules in the choice of furnishings all in keeping with the black and white concept. The upper level, accessible via a ‘floating’ staircase is more defined and personal, its spaces giving out a different energy.
In spite of only using two colors in the construction and decorative aspects of the home, it is in no way monotonous, on the contrary, it can be appreciated for exactly what it is due to its clarity, a contemporary family home.
