Casa 2G, a design project for a family home in San Pedro, Nuovo Leon in Mexico was undertaken by the Monterey based practice of S-AR stacion - ARquitectura. The philosophy of this project is one of honesty and privacy in which a home was designed and constructed for its occupants, a home which doesn’t need to prove itself in any way, thus to the residents of the urban community in which it is located, it simply presented a facade resembling a blank canvas.

Constructed of on-site poured concrete, its raw surfaces and hand finished features in wood and metal was the work of local laborers and craftsmen. This was a deliberate move against the current trend of using mass produced prefabricated methods of construction which contributes to the local unemployment situation.

The 360 sq.m. 3 bedroom home is set back from the street entrance, creating a patio and parking space. The home itself is divided into two volumes, the living and private areas are linked via a decked inner courtyard. The open plan living areas run together seamlessly and are flooded with natural daylight through the extensive glazing. In order for the occupants to enjoy the last glimpse of sunlight and the welcoming breezes from the distant mountains, skylights have been fitted throughout the interior. This comfortable, well planned home was built by people to be cherished by people, a sensitive design by architects with a strong social conscience.
