Enclave House located in Melbourne, Australia is a design project for the renovation of an existing Edwardian property on an inner city site and the construction of an extension plus a separate garage and studio space to the rear of the site. The entire project was undertaken by the Melbourne based practice of BKK Architects who preserved the heritage of the house while adding a contemporary extension and a separate building which incorporates extra studio space above the garage.
The proximity of the neighboring homes in the urban street dictated the architectural lines of the extension. As such, the indented form of its upper level, clad in carefully sourced sustainable timber, provides privacy for the occupants. The vintage feel of the original structure flows seamlessly into the contemporary open plan space where double height glazing visually connects the sister structures via a landscaped yard with raised pool and deck.
A basement area houses a media room but the flexibility of this home is such that the changing needs of the family may easily be accommodated through usage allocation in this spacious family home.
