A snaking concrete path, located in Havoysund, the extreme north of Norway, was designed by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, opening up new perspectives and experiences for the visitors. The main purpose for this intriguing winding ramp was to facilitate walking from the roadside down to the beach along the edge of the Arctic Ocean.

With the aim of isolating and intensifying the experience of walking between the breathtaking views and the stunning surrounding landscape, the architects chose to make the ramp notably long, this way slowing down the movement of pedestrians. Circular openings of different sizes pierce the curved concrete walls that slope gradually to allow easy access to water. The facility has been designed so as to sustain itself in terms of both power input and waste output.

Reiuf Ramstad Arkitekter have brilliantly created a timeless human detail in the vastness of the Norwegian landscape that highlights the duration of experience and allows the visitor to take a moment and take in the serenity and beauty that Norway has to offer.
