Designed by Abalos + Sentkiewicz Arquitectos, the High Speed Train Station in Logrono is the beginning of an exciting new project which will continue with the construction of a complex of housing and a park on the same site, in an effort to unify different areas of the city.

The architects have initiated a whole new way of considering the alternatives in the design of a station, other than the traditional necessity of an huge building which imposes its presence on the urban landscape. The innovative 145.000 m2 structure with its roof of triangular steel facets is erected over sunken platforms which just give a hint of the columns of the pre-existing station. Natural daylight enters the underground spaces via a series of circular glass paned openings and well spaced mirrored surfaces.

A public park climbs over part of the roof of the structure in a pioneering program to exhibit a way in which a public building can work to enhance the lives of the general public while providing a much needed service.
