On the slopes of Saalbach, Hinterglemm, just an hour away from Saltzbug in Austria, a traditional four storey structure has been transformed into a luxurious hotel by the practice of Gogl Architekten, led by Moniker Gogl.

The original house was augmented by a series of minimalist geometric forms, transparent rooms and suites and stone fronted administrative centers, a purist architectural intervention which puts nature at the heart of the extension and permits the spectacular scenery to enter the space through the glass walls. By employing the organic warmth of natural materials, the interior exhibits the charm of a traditional ski chalet in innovative form. Distressed wood, locally sourced stone, granite and raw concrete create a diversity of textures and finishes and contrast with elegant bespoke furnishings from the top design houses of Austria.

A neutral color palette and hand blown glass chandeliers mirror the snow covered exteriors, creating a sanctuary of warmth and light. The restoration represents the ultimate in contemporary design in dialogue with nature through a harmonic merging of the old and new in this winter wonderland destination in the Austrian Alps.
