We just can’t get enough of this magnificent residence, a veritable feast for the eyes, one never tires of the virtual tour through its never ending and increasingly impressive spaces! Like an island high in the sky above downtown LA, it enjoys uninterrupted views as far as the Californian coastline. Designed by the practice of Whipple Russell Architects, Laurel Way is a personification of the glamour of Hollywood, the opulence, luxury and hedonistic pleasure of this West Coast enclave of the rich and famous.

The dramatic impact of the site and location demands a spectacular structure and this is exactly what the architect has provided. Surrounded by a three tiered garden and water filled moat, it brings to mind not only a secluded island but also a fort, a sanctuary where the occupants can feel a sense of security against the outside world. The design aesthetic of the residence is centered on a series of ‘floating’ transparencies, emphasized by the small space left between the walls and the ceilings. A seamless visual flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces is experienced, each one an individual design, a ’jewel box’ filled to the brim with beautiful objects and sensory experiences fused with functionality. Contrasts play a major role within the interior design, dark and light hues compete for prominence, textures and surfaces, gloss and matt sit side by side harmoniously. The result is an element of balance also seen in the expertly curated artwork and decorative elements and light installations from the most prestigious global brands.

An excellent degree of symmetry is incorporated within the structural elements of the home, a play on horizontals and verticals in the interior and movement and curves follow outside with the circles of greenery which surround the property, a landscape option which adds to the scenographic identity of the design without hindering the breathtaking views.

Rarely does one come across a home in which the interior and exterior are matched to an equal level of perfection, a castle in the sky surrounded by elements of fire and water when at night it overlooks the bright city lights, confident in its ability to keep its occupants safe. The Beatles sang that ‘money can’t buy you love’ but if you have a cool $36.000.000 lying around then you could be king of the castle in this mind blowing home!
