The recently opened Macalister Mansion in Penang, Malaysia is the first member property of the Design Hotels Group in the region. The 100 year old property was named after Sir Macalister, one of the first British governors of Penang during the colonial era.

Each decorative item within the space is personally curated in a collaboration between the designers, Singapore based Ministry of Design(MOD) and the owners. Many of the original features of the mansion have been preserved and restored, the columns, carvings and a wrought iron spiral staircase which is a feature of one of the guest rooms. A spectacular regeneration project which highlights the colonial heritage of the area which combines the classic, quirky, hedonistic and  unexpected in a creative blend of the old and the new.
