Completed in 2012, One Wybelenna is an impressive luxury residence in Brisbane, Australia designed by the practice of Shaun Lockyer Architects. The concept for the design was taken from a pre-existing cottage on the site, designed by the local architect Robin Gibson, in addition to the pioneering work of the modernist architect, the late Richard Neutra.

Wishing to respect the architectural history of the site, materials of the original cottage were used wherever possible and supplemented by recycled timber, giving the house a warm contemporary feel with the heritage of the cottage evident throughout. A spacious 1.012 sqm, the home was designed for functional living in a zoned linear nature, every family need has been addressed in the most ergonomic manner.

Sustainability was high on the agenda from the outset and began with the conversion of the old pool into a 140.000 litre water tank. Solar panels, Low-e glass, passive cooling and cross ventilation features ensure that the house remains cool in the summer and takes advantage of the final vestiges of the winter sun. A delightful touch is the green roof over the garage, a space which integrates with the natural flow of the land. This feature provides a home for a local bird species which had already been nesting on the site. The project was completed by the installation of a brand new pool and the planting of an additional 300 trees around the landscaped site.
