This country doctor’s practice with its own in-house pharmacy, was designed by Xarchitekten and built on the edge of a park, in the community of Kasten, in Austria. Rather than being a distraction from the rural feel of the location, the contemporary structure becomes a part of it and in some respects enhances it, thanks to the mirror effect of its stainless steel facade.

The interior is of a futuristic design, the waiting rooms, surgeries and laboratory all  branch off from a circular courtyard enclosed in glass in which is planted a three trunked plane tree, in honour of Hippocrates, the father of medicine who is said to have taught his students under such a tree.

Bright colour details with white walls throughout the interior spaces, make for a comfortable stress free environment for this sensitive community themed building project. The existing trees on the site have been incorporated into the building plan and at the entrance of the clinic, a small pine tree has been planted and around its trunk is a contemporary metal sculpture, the tree represents the staff around which the Aesculapian snake twists, the symbol of human medicine.
