Situated in Tangergang of Indonesia, Aboday Architects orchestrated their talent into creating a two storey sculptural concrete residence, where architecture is synonym with fun and play. Built for a family of three, the house’s design was based on their enthusiastic and energetic 5 year old son. A merger of an existing house with a new building in its adjacent lot, the residence occupies only 150m2 of a 320m2 land, due to its corner setback.

The main feature stealing the spotlight is a spiraling concrete slide, used instead of a normal staircase, connecting the kitchen and the child’s bedroom.
Simple and clean cut in its design, apart from 3 enclosed bedrooms, the rest of the house is an open space of an achromatic color palette of white and grey.

Exposed raw concrete prevails throughout the house, interrupted by small glass incisions, creating a contemporary and bold character. Although strong and durable in its quality, concrete was a challenge due its tendency to trap heat easily. The 10m high ceilings and the use of heat resistant membranes solved the problem of heat accumulation, as a result of which the architects chose solely natural ventilation through a series of ceiling fans. In addition, ‘rain windows’ and large trees ensure the generation of ever changing flow of air and shade areas.
