Quinta Do Vallado Winery Hotel is an expansion project, of distinctive identity, completed in March 2012, by architects Guedes and DeCampos. Situated in Peso da Regua, Portugal, the winery required two areas of intervention; those of leisure and production. The main challenging objective was to preserve and incorporate the pre-existing facilities in a new complex with a clearly contemporary vocabulary.
The architects chose a path of utter simplicity in, both, the materials used and creation of forms. Concrete and slates prevail throughout the winery, adding to its modern element, while highlighting the sensorial characteristics of the surfaces. The insertion of the new volumes emphasizes on geometry and was handled with great technical precision.
The Hotel décor embraces a “world heritage” character and enhances the local traditions and the family heritage of its owners, through family-made photographs and sculptures. Despite the existing spatial and formal limitations, Guedes and DeCampos inserted a new facility, with seductive spaces and a strong impact on the surrounding landscape.
