This three level 355 sq.m. residence in the exclusive suburb of Filothei, Athens was designed by the practice of GEM Architects. A contemporary interpretation of the classic Doric form of architecture, emphasis is on the contrasts of volume and void, employed on all facades of the structure.

The climatic needs of the home, during the intense heat of the Athenian summer have been dealt with in the most natural of ways through the design features of extensive openings and shaded areas under wooden pergolas. In this way, natural air flow is assured enhancing the bioclimatic qualities of the home.

The building materials of textured concrete, wood, stucco and black lava stone within the recesses allow the home to evolve and age gracefully through orchestrated exposure to the elements. The addition of a roof garden provides efficient insulation of the interior throughout the year.

The merging of the indoor/outdoor spaces on the ground level are through sliding glass doors which lead out onto a wooden deck and pool area, ensuring that every need is catered to in this beautifully designed modern home.
