Tense Architecture Network was established in 2004 by Tilemachos Andrianopoulos and Kostas Mavros. The firm has received several awards for their architectural projects, one of which was for the residence in Kato Kifissia.

The plot was in a built up area in a suburb of Athens. The neighbouring buildings had all but blocked out the southern sunlight from the space. As such an environment had to be created which would take advantage of what little sunlight there was available.

Two basic geometric shapes form the residence. The smaller of the two is located at the north of the site and the larger is a central cantilevered structure which frees the ground for a garden space and permits the maximum amount of sunshine into the residence. The placement of light reflecting materials on the courtyard directs more natural light into the interior. The borders of the site have been planted in order to define the residence.
