The RMIT Swanston Academic Building by Architectural practice Lyons in conjunction with RWA is located in Melbourne city centre. The urban campus presents an alternative model of academic structure and has been designed to reflect the high level of education offered by the university.

The facade of the 10 level building mirrors the surrounding urban landscape in its  multi-coloured pixelated form. The interior is equally colourful with spaces following the geometric lines of the facade to provide an environment conducive to the learning process.

In an area of 35.000 sq.m. students and faculty can enjoy the very latest in cutting edge facilities ranging from lecture auditoriums capable of seating 300 students to more compact learning spaces. Accommodation for the 800 staff of the Business School is also provided and 11 student portals, areas for socializing for the student body which replace the university campus quad or green.

The project was undertaken with a commitment to sustainability in operation and embodies advanced systems for reduced water and energy use. The building is accredited with a 5 star green rating on the environmental scale.
