Local and environmental conditions played a major role in the outstanding design of this three-storey residence in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Architects Shatotto decided on an inverted design for this structure in order to provide a high level of privacy in this densely populated area.

Built entirely in concrete with wooden details, the square shell encloses a shaded courtyard with a pool, an oasis with the identity of a natural feature with a tree planted garden and even a simple wooden boat. The skylight above the pool brings the sky, trees and birds into view further enhancing the feel of a natural habitat to the water courtyard. It also works as an exhaust system for the concrete building, allowing the neutralization of hot air and providing a cool space to counteract the tropical heat of the summer. An exotic, spiritual design which would work equally well in any tropical area, stunning in its simplicity.
