A renovation project for a 1970s structure to house the Satellite Control Centre in Arganda del Rey was undertaken by the practice of Herreros Arquitectos. The refurbishment of the circular building addressed the exterior appearance, the reorganisation of the interior and an improvement of its sustainability, to create an improved work environment  and upgrade the public image of the organisation.

The facade was reinvented by an impressive perforated aluminum skin which was both decorative and functional, providing a level of privacy for the interior without compromising the level of illumination through natural daylight. The stunning lattice effect provided the structure with an entirely improved design aesthetic which captures the light throughout the course of the day. The newly designed facade was attached one metre from the glazing of the structure, leaving a narrow walkway on each level, improving the natural ventilation and protection from the climatic extremes of summer and winter.

The interior was totally transformed into a contemporary space, workstations were defined by the installation of glass panels of various hues, patterns and opacity which allowed an open plan feel within the space. The result of the project was upgrading of a retro building into a 21st century business centre worthy of accommodating an organisation of this genre.
