In Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh Province Vietnam, this toru shaped house is impressive as an excellent example of sustainable architecture. Designed by the up and coming practice of Vo Trong Nghia Architects, a defining feature is the eco-friendly lawn planted green roof which has been seamlessly integrated into the design of this semi-sunken family home.

Faced in weathered blue stone, it curved beautifully in on itself to create a hidden courtyard on one side while the road facing facade reveals a hint of what this structure conceals, a very grand home indeed. All windows face a mature garden which plays a vital role in bringing nature into the interior. Practically every surface is lined in dark polished wood, the series of warm luxurious surfaces contrasting with the rough stone of the exterior. A truly innovative design found in an unexpected location!
