Located on an idyllic site overlooking the Straits of Gibraltar in Tarifa, Cadiz, Spain, Tarifa House was designed by the practice of James & Mau Arquitectura. This contemporary structure was developed from the traditional architecture of the region, a type of structure which has proved to be ideally suited to the Mediterranean climate of the region.

A series of horizontal volumes creating a number of flexible indoor, outdoor spaces are protected from the summer sun by a framework of steel mesh which creates a unique system of climate control. By incorporating elements from the local village and farm houses, Tarifa House has the advantage of the best of both worlds through a number of pergolas, pavilions and terraces, volumes and voids which together with the evaporation from the surrounding water feature enjoys natural cross ventilation in the cool understated interior.

Simplicity rules throughout with the basic structure of modular pre-fabrication by Infinski. Wooden floors, sustainable materials and renewable energy systems via solar thermal panels make this easily maintained new age Andalusian residence a perfect holiday home.
