In the cavernous space which once housed the Athens Stock Exchange in Sofokleous Street, in the heart of the city, a unique event is currently underway. The 4th Athens Biennale 2013 AGORA Week could not have a better location in which to hold a forum which explores the alternatives to a state of bankruptcy. An open invitation was extended to the international world of writers, artists, performers, musicians and all who wished to share their views and participate in this one of a kind opportunity.
The innovative theme emerges at a period of economic uncertainty, not only in Greece but globally and this has spurred on and brought together a group of professionals to this experimental forum in a cultural exchange of inspirational ideas. Lectures, exhibitions, workshops, round table discussions and music events provide a fascinating yet entertaining combination of atmospheric events within the genre of contemporary art.
The 4th Athens Biennale runs from September 29th through December 1st and an 8 euro season ticket admits visitors to the entire event over the two month period. Contributors including German cinematographer Harun Faroch, who examines the connection between art and politics, performances by OKK Aktionsgruppe, a Berlin-based collective working on the borders of art and activism, Ianna Andreadis presents Athena Thea, a collective photographic project which gives her personal perspective of Athens, just to name a few, are just an example of the breadth of the program of events included within the 4AB.
Now in its final month, the 4AB presents a tremendous opportunity to attend an event which questions our current reality and offers a myriad of solutions proposed through a diverse variety of unexpected happenings. The 4th Athens Biennale is yet another pioneering event which verifies the status of Athens as a world stage for the latest innovations in contemporary art.
