Visitors to the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, one of the world’s greatest annual motoring events held in the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, were greeted by a massive sculpture created by artist and designer Gerry Judah. No stranger to the genre of public artwork, Gerry Judah was chosen by Porsche to undertake this commission in order to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of their iconic model, the Porsche 911.

The 35 meters high sculpture which weighs in at 22 tones, soars sky high as three pure white steel arrows on impossibly narrow bases, at the peak of which are placed the three Porsche 911 models which most typify the evolution of the legendary car. The models are the original ‘63 911, the ‘73 911 Carrera RS 2.7 and the current 2013 911, each one an individual star.

The striking sculpture represents the ‘energy and excitement, not only of the beautiful cars but also of the Festival of Speed’, states the artist. The piece claims many inherent qualities of the Porsche 911 including skilled engineering and simple streamlined design which results in an impressive object which does the job it was intended to do!
