Ingrid Baars is a Dutch born visual artist/photographer, currently based in Antwerp, Belgium. She began her career as a professional photographer but is now established as an artist of some repute who adopts a hands-on approach through every stage of her work from the initial photo shoot right up to the digital manipulation of her images to produce the stunning final result.

Through her constant exploration of the female form, a conventional photograph of a woman is transformed into a tribal statue made of wood or stone, an exotic creature or an large eyed extra-terrestrial being. She imaginatively creates a powerful otherworldly sense of beauty within her artwork, inspired by a diverse collection of sources from Dali to Picasso and the art of ethnic cultures.

In her current ongoing series of images, ‘L’Afrique’ the female is elevated to a goddess status through images which retain the contrasting elements of vulnerability and dynamic energy inherent within the female entity. He solo exhibition is being held at the Galerie Pien Rademakers in Amsterdam through to April 17th, 2013.
