At the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, an exhibition by five paper designers may be a reason for reconsidering any preconceived ideas as to what can be created out of paper, glue and scissors. Organized by Cite de l’architecture + Heritage, a selection of urban landscapes, real and imaginary is created by employing a variety of traditional and innovative techniques of bending, folding and snipping sheets of paper.
Mathilde Nivet uses folding, decoupage and montage in her 3D model of urbanization. Beatrice Coron creates highly detailed cutouts of fantasy structures from sturdy pressed paper, Stephanie Beck draws from personal experience to build miniature models, textured by building up layers of fine paper, Ingrid Siliakus creates her art from the traditional Japanese crafts of Origami and Kirigami and Peter Callesen presents us with cut-outs which are still attached to the sheet of paper from which they originate.
During the course of the exhibition, workshops are being held in order to teach a selection of these paper techniques to children.
