The 2012 exhibition for Performance Architecture was held in Guimaraes, Portugal and the five exhibits featured were chosen through a competition in which architects were invited to create temporary installations for public spaces throughout the city.
The Construction with Clothes piece by Dantiope uses the familiar medium of washing on a series of lines as an alternative structure; a colourful work of art which appears to be blowing in the wind is in fact a classic example of architectural form in an unexpected dimension which adds a positive energy to the public space.
Through this event the organizers hope to revive the trend of Performance Art and happenings through urban installations, thus widening the range of participation for architects, designers and artists. In addition to ‘Construction with Clothes by Dantiope, the other exhibits were: ‘Bodyphonic’ by DOSE Collective, ‘Fountain Hacks’ by Like Architects, ‘Agricultural Mountain’ by IUT and ‘Unidade’ by Pedrita Studios + Ricardo Jacindo.
