INTERVIEW

What does design mean for you? What is design in your life?

Design is about simplifying and embellishing the daily life tools. No matter who you are you will enjoy better done objects, more accurate and more appropriate to the use the object was created for. Nothing is definitive everything is changing perennially; it depends on the society mutations and on the new techniques discovery and materials.

Design became an integrant part of my life; it’s a continuous mental exercise and challenge with me. Somehow it obliges you to monitories the world’s social and cultural progress and to be an active participant.

Please describe the changes in design over the last 20 years.

No need to speak about the various currents and tendencies changing periodically from post modern to minimal then to baroque passing by all the other schools, since every one can see with his own eyes, but I rather speak about the approach to design which is changing . Nowadays every designer is more and more concerned with the environment, the recycling and the sustainability of each product.

Which designers/architects have influenced your work the most?

The Bauhaus and the fifties

What item have you envied because of its design?

The JACOBSEN chair

Do you believe that design assists in the creation of a “better” world?

It could be if it was to the reach of every one but unfortunately the under developed world is still far from enjoying the “better world”

Should design be more inexpensive or does it deserve to be paid for at a high price?

My affirmation might sound and look bizarre but I am sincerely and really for a more democratic design. This does not deny the right to exist of the limited editions and high quality concept and material design to exist.

What led you to become involved in design?

Creating things was my obsession since my childhood much before that I came to now that they call it design.

If you were not an architect/ designer, what other profession would you have chosen?

An enjoyable profession would be an archaeologist or a movie director
A rentable one would be an electrician, a plumber etc...
