The Element Collection of Tables is the result of a collaboration between innovative Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka and Desalto and was recently shown at the 2013 Salone del Mobile in Milan. The collection is composed several items including a dining table, low table and console table plus a chair.

The inspiration for the pieces of furniture with their sharply angled forms began in 2007, when the designer conducted an experiment called the ‘Crystallized Project’ in which he ‘grew’ a chair from the organic medium of crystals. The sculptured pieces are produced in black or white metal in a variety of finishes including surfaces in oak veneer, opaque black glass, rough iron and polished stainless steel, on single supports or in the case of the longer dining tables with supplementary supports, all of which exhibit a gravity defying balance of their irregular shapes.

A press release from Desalto stated that the collection had been produced with the intention of ‘raising the question of how we could connect our lives to the future by being exposed to the serendipitous beauty of nature.........’
