Rutger de Regt aims to revolutionize the design industry by encouraging designers to create their own products! This is exactly what he has done with his latest collection of chairs, stools, lamps, tables and bowls under the series Happy Misfits, Cotton Candy and Make + Mold.

Inspired by the human body, Happy Misfits are a mass of muscular forms, softly rounded arms, chunky legs and voluptuous buttocks, formed into chairs and stools. The design and manufacturing process begins with a soft balloon of styrofoam pearls which the designer manipulates through a series of straps and ties until it reaches the desired form and finally, it is sprayed with water to solidify the shape. Make + Mold is a thermoplastic recycling process which requires a new mold for each piece to create colorful, textured objects.

Each model is launched in a limited edition of 8, available in 25 colors in graded shades of blue, pink, purple, yellow and green. The collection was developed from a concept the designer began to explore during his time at the Royal Academy of Art, when he became interested in the possibility of creating handmade designs, a fusion of craftsmanship and industrial design. The result is delightfully sculptural household objects, highly usable and yet maintaining the status of a piece of art. The Rutger de Regt collection was shown at Design events in London, Milan and the Netherlands during 2013.
