Chae Young Kim applies digital media graphics to ordinary objets to design a variety of products. Her works lies the boundaries between digital and analogue, reality and illusion, and art and design. Her unique idea of mixing digital media with everyday objects was recognised at the 2010 [d3] Contest hosted by imm cologne and was chosen as a winner by a jury of interior experts. She is currently co-working with furniture, craft, fashion and interior designers of Korea and Europe under the name "+chae young kim" and "CH textile collection".

Chae Young Kim first studied Fine Art and Visual Communication Design at Seoul National University, from 2001-2006, and then went on to attend Chelsea College of Art and Design, graduating with a first class degree in Textile Design in 2008. Utilising this background and experience Chae Young Kim's work pushes the boundaries of digital textiles and print to create a new look with the expert use of digital software. The project initiated from her personal experience then went on to the study of the relationship between people and their environment and explores the theme of urban camouflage.

The 'Knitted Room' prints are the 6th collection of 'Urban Camouflage' project. The soft, hair-like lines on this wallpaper give the unique impression that they have been photographed or hand drawn. In fact, Kim creates such fine lines digitally using 2D vector graphics. The basic structures of knitted graphics were created with this smart computer graphic technique by scripts and numbers and more illusions with the vector lines, carefully drawn and manipulated one by one, were added for the result. The computer software and digital printing process facilitates incredibly fine detailing, allowing the designer to reinterpret the warmth of knitted threads onto the surface of the materials.
