The Piani collection is made up of a flat base and a flat top. The base is either a tray so that objects can be displayed in a triangular beam of light as if they were on stage or, in its longer version, a shelf so that more objects can be supported by this hybrid design. Piani comes in plastic as well as in oak wood and basalt stone in the shelving versions so that different sensual experiences are suggested.

Well-known for their clean lines and minimalist designs, with the ‘Piani’ collection of table lamps the two French designers demonstrate how formal reduction and simplicity of design can breathe life into objects that are both useful and elegant. The distinctive feature of the series is the overlaying of two flat elements: the upper one providing direct light, while the lower one, shaped like a tray, becomes a convenient receptacle for pens, coins, paper clips, keys and the other little objects that we never know where to put. And so these lamps become a sort of elegant ‘valet tray’ for desks and entrance halls. Available in small and large versions, the collection comprises just a few articles made from injection-moulded plastic. Always sensitive to peoples’ daily needs, with ‘Piani’ the Bououllec brothers have created objects that are both useful and functional.
