The latest in a series of collaborative projects between the iconic automobile firm of BMW and world renowned designers, is that with French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec who created the Quiet Motion Installation for the 2013 Salone del Mobile.

Inspired by the BMWi, a lightweight model constructed of environmentally friendly materials and endowed with the new quiet driving experience feature, the Bouroullecs have translated these points into their series of  slow rotating ‘carousel’ like designs, which make up the installation. The location chosen for the piece, the courtyard of a monastery which houses the Facolta Teologica dell’Italia Settentrionale, is a space of  inherent tranquility, perfectly suited to appreciate the poetic interpretation of movement and contemplation.

Each platform is finished in materials used in the automobile industry, the external paintwork is that of the BMW and the seating area is of the finest leather used within the cockpit of the car. Strips of curtain surround each platform, allowing the visitor a form of semi-isolation but retaining a visual connection to the surroundings, not unlike the experience of sitting in a slowly moving vehicle.
