Young German designer, Sebastian Herkner certainly made his mark during the 2013 Milan Design Week with a varied collection of furniture and household items. The contrasting elements in terms of color, functionality and manufacturing methods shared a common element of quality and innovation as well as often uniquely inspirational themes.

Included within the collection was the Chado Tea Set for the Czech firm of Verreum. A tray containing items which celebrate the ritual of drinking tea in a variety of materials including frosted and silvered glass, marble and brass. Bell table is a copper table which incorporates a hidden bar. Bell Lights for Class.com are a series of lights based on classic molds with a twist and Studio First Rug for Nodus is an item which typifies the work of the designer in terms of combining traditional craftsmanship in the production of a contemporary design. The charming Salut Table for La Chance is a tiny side table for one, comprised of a tray like table top which protrudes at an angle from a cylindrical base. His warm comfortable Coat Sofa for Moroso would be welcome in most domestic spaces and his armchairs for Spanish brand Sancal were inspired by the roots of the Ceiba tree!

Another unusual source of inspiration was the outstretched wings of a mating ostrich which he incorporates into the shape of the Banjooli Chair for Moroso, part of the M’Afrique collection, the seating is formed by weaving threads normally used for fishing nets. Each chair differs slightly pointing to the handcrafted element of each unique piece. Layer for Pulpo in pebble grey or red is a side table with a fabric shelf, perfect for storing a magazine.

A fascinatingly inventive collection in a unique range of materials, executed in both technological and traditional methods which highlight the versatility of this popular designer.
