Presented at the Salone del Mobile 2013 earlier this year was TOSHI, a versatile collection of cabinets designed by Luca Nichetto for Casamania. There are myriad references to Japan to be found within this collection which was inspired by the Tokyo skyline and in fact the name TOSHI means ‘city’ in the Japanese language!

The pure simplicity of geometric forms make up each piece produced from milled and lacquered MDF, available in different shapes and heights. Each piece is decorated by a different distinctive mosaic design which is based on those found on many buildings in Tokyo. Two types of legs are available, a low base and a set of slender metal legs, inspired by the urban architecture of modern day Japan. The interiors of the cabinets may be organized by the accompanying metal containers, three have been designed for each cabinet.

The entire feel of the collection with its understated aesthetic and intricate attention to detail typifies all that we have come to recognize in the world of Japanese design and culture when translated into a contemporary form.
