Designer Michiel Cornelissen was inspired by the icons of Russian folk art and more specifically by Matryoshka Dolls to create the 3D Mesh Matryoshkas for Dutch design publisher Soonsalon.
A recent collaboration between the innovative design practice of Nendo and KOKUYO, a Japanese company which specializes in office furniture, resulted in the collection of modular furniture entitled ‘Brackets’.
Recently presented at the Maison & Objet design fair in Paris, Mangas Spaces is a collection of rugs and modular furniture designed by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola for GAN. The prestigious international Bronze 'A’Design Award 2013' was recently won by the Athens based design group of Urban Fiction for the design of their floor lamp, ‘Urbanoids’. The Atlanta based lighting designer Christopher Moulder is the brainchild behind this gear shaped lighting system which he calls the ‘Schproket’. The design for this highly original lighting option emerged after experimentation with low voltage bulbs which means that the fixture doesn’t need any insulation, thus, Schproket is the actual light socket.
