Angelo Katsapis was born in Melbourne, Australia from Greek descent; both parents are from Sparta, Greece.

Bachelor of Arts in fashion with honours at the royal Melbourne institute of technology.

18 years industry experience starting career in dispatch, moving to quality control, patternmaking, production assistant, design assistant, senior designer, creative director and since spring summer 2008, the launch of the angelokatsapis label

Worked across leading Australian fashion houses; from denim, street wear, pret-a-porter, to haute couture.

One of his most important experiences was with Giorgio Armani for five years. Arriving in Milan in 2000, there he worked as senior designer on the Giorgio Armani mainline, evening and red carpet VIP clientele. He designed the debut Giorgio Armani haute couture collection Prive.

His inspiration is “the woman” and more specifically his wonderful female friends and contacts over the years.

With his collection and images, he has tried to capture the essence of woman: her independence, strength, power, intellect, androgony, insecurity, maternal instinct and sixth sense.

The pieces created are luxurious, however it is a luxury that is to be consumed and not to be considered too precious.

Made in Italy, hand painted fabrics in France, silk lined, supporting local artisanal industry: taking these traditional methods of production into an incredibly modern and comfortable product that is relevant to the woman of today and the future.

The pieces are very light and not constricting at all – very atypical for occasion dressing. Having worked for so many years on high level pret-a-porter and couture, I have found certain attitudes and techniques outdated. I wanted to produce a beautiful and appealing product that is above all, incredibly kind to women. Allowing the woman to ‘be’ and express herself freely without competing with the garment or the designer’s vision.

Occasion pieces with a modern intellect, attitude and sensibility.

In January 2012 he has been invited by the federation de la couture in Paris to participate in the sidaction charity event during couture week.

Alongside with YSL, Louis Vuitton he will design a special haute couture garment which will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to the charity.
