Alexander Wang found inspiration for Balenciaga Resort 2014 in the house’s archives in the small coastal town of Getaria in Spain. Alike his last collection Wang remained reverent to the legacy of Balenciaga and respectful to the house’s codes. The signature shapes of Balenciaga were evident throughout the collection; the volumes, the shapes, the tulip hems were all there. It seemed as if the collection on its whole was an extension of what Wang presented at his first collection for the house but enriched with Wang’s signature sporty take on couture. I loved the dresses and the petal bustiers, however I did not feel much the bucket hats and sandals covered in plastic straw. By and large it was a collection that represented another step further for Wang and Balenciaga.
