The amazingly complex graphics featured in Mary Katranzou’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection are the subject of a series of photographs by Erik Madigan Heck appearing in his exclusive publication, Nomenus Quarterly – possibly the most expensive magazine in the world, one of the issues sold at $6.500!

Inspired by the interior art of 19th century artists Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillare, the delicate ethereal quality of the photographs has been achieved by a combination of digital manipulation and post production painting. The resulting images accomplish the aim of reducing the space between photography and illustration without reducing the aesthetics of either.

Reflecting upon the images, Heck stated “It signifies a different direction in my own work, where I am trying to flatten the space between  photography and illustration, by eliminating photographic elements and painting on different surfaces and colors in post-production, attempting to move closer towards painting itself, in process and form.”
