The choice and type of holiday destinations in Greece is never ending, whether visitors decide to visit the islands or mainland, to stay in a simple rented room or in a super luxurious hotel, there is something for everyone to enjoy. A long time favourite location for locals and international tourists alike is the Ionian island of Zakynthos, a place known for its sunny climate, endless beaches, unique attractions and last but not least, its fame as one of the breeding grounds of the Caretta Caretta sea turtle.

It is in Tzilivi, Zakynthos that a brand new 5 star hotel, the Aqua Bay, opened in 2013. The latest addition to the Xenos group of hotels, it is a project undertaken by Block722architects+; Olga Papadatou in association with Sotiris Tsergas, Dora Felekou, Konstantina Koligati and Katja Margaritoglou, who was also responsible for the stunning interior design of the hotel.

The two main buildings of the complex are united by a common roof and entrance, the roof mirrors the colour and topography of the surrounding area. The element of home, comfort, family relaxation and water is emphasized throughout the space from the lobby which is configured in a ‘house’ design, the ‘rooms’ defined by the number of floor and ceiling designs and enhanced through the custom designed furniture, a blend of traditional and contemporary which is seen in many aspects of the establishment. The wall illustration of a whale is a playful element which welcomes the guests and gives a hint of what kind of holiday lies ahead!

The minimal aesthetic of the neutral palette of the guest rooms are a deliberate attempt to provide the perfect environment for rest and relaxation after a fun filled day enjoying all that is on offer at the Aqua Bay, including a Water-park, 5 swimming pools, 2 restaurants and bars, all designed with the comfort and enjoyment of the guest in mind!
