The ingenious interior design project of Beam Block House located in Poznan, Poland, was undertaken by the Polish practice of Mode:Lina. The compact space of just 140 sq.m. posed a challenge in providing adequate storage space while maintaining the appearance of a clean, minimal interior with strong functional elements, in line with the Scandinavian aesthetic of ‘more is less’!

The open living, dining and kitchen areas are defined by exposed raw concrete ceilings and beams, setting the tone for the color palette of various tones of grey. The monotony of grey is broken the splashes of bright yellow on the doors, cupboards and random accents throughout the space which create a playfully positive balance.

Richly polished wood and concrete floors introduce an element of warmth into the living space. The angled bookshelf, mirroring the unexpected angled features at every turn, is set against a dark grey wall beside the TV, allowing the latter to virtually ‘merge’  avoiding  the effect of its domination within the limited space.

All wooden fittings were custom-designed by Mode:Lina, including the small kitchen island, a morning meeting place for the young occupants, bringing a cohesive presence to the interior. Every inch of visible and concealed space was used to its full advantage including the sometimes forgotten area under the stairs, which was transformed into a cozy home for the family dog!
