There are so many factors to consider when purchasing a home; will we get on with the neighbours and will it suit the needs of our future family? The answers are an unknown quantity and only time will tell, until things come to a head and we realize that our once comfy home is now bursting at the seams! At this stage, one option would be to buy a bigger home, but perhaps this move is a little extreme, considering that this overload is simply a temporary situation as eventually, children grow up and move out to continue their lives elsewhere. This project of Casa Cor, an annexe to a home in Belo Hor, Brazil, may be a workable solution for many problems arising from lack of space, through the design by the Brazilian practice of Pedro Lazaro.

The annexe is in the form of a simple rectangular box nestled amongst the lush semi-tropical foliage of a mature garden. The immediate surroundings have influenced the decision of the incorporation of a strong organic element within the design, a bold timber roof trim and the surrounding deck of the structure. The interior, a contemporary minimal space contrasts with the organic exterior through the use of concrete tiles and warm lighting. The two large floor to ceiling windows slide back to allow cross ventilation and suggest a welcome feel of a garden pavilion during the steamy summer months. Heavy moss green curtains enclose the interior entirely providing privacy and mirror the lushness of the garden beyond. A welcoming elegant space with an exceptionally high design aesthetic through the choice of a select few bespoke items. Most of all, this is a wonderful solution for a non-invasive, low budget home extension, which can be carried out without disturbing the everyday running of the home.
