In recent years we have seen a rapid rise in the popularity of concrete as the choice of material used not only in construction, but also in interior design. Once thought of simply as an acceptable option for industrial surfaces, it has now become the darling of the art and design world. We can instantly see why its raw, tactile surfaces are so sought after, in this stunning interior of a residence in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic,  by the Prague based practice of oooox Architects.

The rough grey concrete on the walls and ceilings is left in its natural state to contrast with the polished concrete floor and white surfaces. The open plan living room and kitchen are a continuation of minimal furnishings, well-chosen pieces in a neutral palette in a variety of textures. A simple wooden unit and dining table complete the ultra-contemporary space which opens out into a generous garden through wall to ceiling windows.

The sophisticated ambience continues in the private spaces on the upper level where the smallest details of the bedroom and bathroom are dealt with in the best possible way while remaining faithful to the superior level of design aesthetics. The interior is completed by the choice of spectacular light fittings ranging from clusters of tiny spots through to the stunning abstract cloud like installation which appears to be  ‘floating’ above the dining table.
