Corona Borealis, a villa complex set in a breathtaking location on the coastline of the Aegean island of Naxos, recently underwent a renovation of the interior and pool area by the prestigious designer Stavros Papayannis and his associates at STAGEDESIGNOFFICE.

The complex, built in traditional island style, using local materials, required no radical structural intervention, thus the designers began by the introduction of grey walls and woodwork which brought a warmth to the marble of the black and white floors. The quirky pot-pourri of traditional island furnishings and abstract objects from foreign lands were reorganized and supplemented by a bold contemporary strokes. The placement of a series of photographs of pages from design magazines of the past, the work of the designers, together with carefully chosen rugs and soft furnishings added a colonial elegance to the space.

The reception area, which also doubles as a breakfast buffet space, has the charm of a family home. Shelving displays the local produce of the island and the existing furniture was added to by vintage pieces sources from antique stores.

The pool area was painted grey, in homage to the colour of the local stone, the poolside tables and chairs with grey fabric unholstering, are in perfect harmony with the surroundings and the spectacular views of this romantic holiday destination.
