In the mountain resort of Zermatt in the Swiss Alps, the name of Heinz Julen is revered as a local artist and interior designer. The Heinz Julen Loft was once his private residence and understandably it represents his design aesthetic right down to the very smallest detail.

The Manhattan Loft style home is located in what appears to be a generous sized wooden chalet, on entering however, one realizes that this is no rustic alpine retreat! A vast transparent space supported by seven snow white columns, the large living room enjoys on two sides, a stunning mountain view. Every item of furniture as well as the wall of art is the work of the artist, including the unique internally illuminated glass coffee table which is suspended from the ceiling allowing it to be raised to become a dining table or even higher to free up the floor space for party time. A baby Steinway grand piano stands in one corner and a comfortable lounge area sits in front of a fireplace actually set into a window!

On the mezzanine, a cozy TV room includes a jacuzzi and guest bathroom, galley kitchen with cabinet handles made of bent soup spoons and a bar. What really sets this space apart is the opaque glass floor which glows subtly with interior lighting. Two en-suite guest bedrooms lead from the living area behind transparent walls, one above the other and the Master bedroom which is an absolute masterpiece and a replica of a suite at the ‘Into the Hotel’, also a design of Julen, including a freestanding bath with wood slating massage table, sofa, walk in wardrobe and a TV set into the window!

The absolute ultimate in contemporary Alpine chic without a hint of rural charm but more than a hint of sophisticated glamour, it presents a face of enviable luxury as a perfect setting for the enjoyment of the A-list, or anyone who can financial negotiate this level of accommodation, as it is now available as a vacation home!
