The traditional market of Machane Yehuda in Jerusalem adopts another persona after dark as it transforms into a lively entertainment destination. The market, also known as The Shuk, is the location of Jacko’s Street restaurant, designed by the practice of Studio OPA.

A window display of bottles, containers and a birdcage welcomes diners to the vivid, exciting interior where its eclectic style becomes a journey of discovery, with something new to see at every turn! One wall was allowed to remain in its original distressed state and is adorned with parts of wire shopping trolleys. The wall above the kitchen is a mass of street signs and another wall is faced with painted wooden boards.

A strong vibe of urban industrial sophistication sits side by side with the rusticity of the open kitchen with butcher’s hooks, hanging produce and shopping bags as a constant reference to city street life. The concrete floor has areas of traditional tiles and an original inset of a display of wines beneath a plate of structural glass. The cafe like tables with faded inlaid chess board designs like an old style coffee house are matched with a variety of vintage type chairs. The young duo of designers at Studio OPA have contributed their individual styles to create a inimitable design aesthetic and produced a fun interior for this quirky dining destination in downtown Jerusalem.
