In the city of Marseille, appointed as the European Capital of Culture 2013, an inspirational event has been launched in Apartment 50, a privately owned space in a 1952 housing block designed by the legendary designer Le Corbusier.

It is in this iconic venue, within the region of Cite Radieuse, that German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic has installed his favourite pieces including Mayday lamps for Flos, 360 degree stools for Magis and Topkapi marble table for Marsotto, amongst others. In the original Le Corbusier interior, the walls are adorned with blown up pages from an underground punk cult publication creating a distinct contrast of cultures. It is here that these opposing poles of the isolation of the punk culture and the discipline of interior design are harmonised within the raw energy of the spirit of Le Corbusier.

Within the modernist environment, Grcic has constrained himself to a minimal palette of black, white and red which further enhances the contemporary identity of his pieces. Apartment 50 will remain open for public viewing through August 2013 and for fans of Le Corbusier, the MoMA in New York is currently hosting an exhibition of his work.
