A run down chalet built 30 years ago in the exclusive community of Red Mountain in Aspen, Colorado is the subject of this impressive makeover by Oppenheim Architecture and Design. Keeping in mind the roots of the structure, the renovation was approached with great respect for the natural beauty of the surroundings and adhering to the Japanese principle of Wabi Sabi, the tradition of accepting the imperfections in any object.

Wherever possible, recycled materials were used in the project, reclaimed local wood, stone and steel ensure that the 3.500 sq.ft. structure blends into the surrounding forests and mountains. Powered by solar energy and fitted with insulated glass panes as well as many eco-friendly options for maintenance, make this a sustainable project ideally suited to its unspoilt location.

The addition of a deck and hot pool and an interior makeover has created a luxurious winter holiday home in a contemporary rustic mode, warm and inviting after a day on the pistes!
