Due to open later this week, Mama Shelter Istanbul is the realization of a concept based on a love affair between Jereme Trigano and this culturally diverse cosmopolitan city. As co-founder of Mama Shelter, he found the location in the area of Beyoglu or Pera, an area on the European side of the city, as an ideal location for the latest hotel of the brand which he envisages as a village, a place which comes to life through human contact and emotion.

Once more, the unique design aesthetic of Philippe Starck drew upon the culture of the city to create an interior reflecting an ‘urban bazaar’ environment. A multitude of fun objects, colorful inflatable plastic lifesavers and meaningful messages written in chalk - a reference to the fragility of man - adorn the public spaces.

Offering the very best of urban boutique accommodation in 81 rooms there are additional facilities including 2 meeting rooms, bar and a restaurant serving French and Turkish cuisine. Hospitality is taken to another level in a space which promises to become a destination for visitors and locals alike with the promise of concerts, events and lectures.

On the project, Philippe Starck comments: ‘It was normal, logical, natural, that Mama Shelter, meeting points for all generations, of all creations, of all energies, settles down one day in Istanbul a junction between all cultures, all civilizations, all futures.’
