In the city of Lyon in France, the heritage neighbourhood of Golden Square attracted designer Marie Lise Dulac Ferry as the ideal place to create her home. She began by purchasing a 200 year old duplex penthouse apartment, removing all of the dividing walls and doors, which immediately produced a contemporary loft like space. As the owner of a well-known antique store, Un Chateau en Espagne, she was in the fortunate position of having at her disposal, a stunning assortment of vintage pieces with which to decorate and furnish her home.

In the entrance, a dramatic space dominated by a mid-century Bauhaus themed bridge and staircase to the upper level, a cozy library is visible through a glazed dividing wall, furnished in colourful seating units, which set the stage for the diverse stylistic theme which continues in every space. The balance of the lower level is bright and open, the individually zoned areas following a design aesthetic close to the heart of the owner, romantic and sophisticated with an elegance fitting to a heritage structure.

On the upper level, each bedroom follows an original design theme. A play on vintage, retro and contemporary with unexpected results. The bathrooms are bright positive spaces, the surfaces of sea green and turquoise mosaic, a homage to the happy memories of holidays in sunny places. In the simplicity of understatement, the outdoor areas allow the roofscape to dominate as a defining feature in this exquisitely designed comfortable home!
