PAT. has applied concepts developed through a straw of award winning competition entries to the refurbishment, fitting and furnishing of a 300 m2 flat in a XVII sec. listed building in Piacenza. The historical shell of the building -its walls and painted vaulted roofs- have been restored, and a new continuous resilient floor unifies the space defined by a neutral cream tone.

The new functional elements are defined by a striking contrast in the use of materials, which underlines the stratification of interventions allowing to intuitively discern the old from the new. Where needed, we introduced new mezzanines in exposed steel beams and metal decks without altering the readability of the original spaces, while other servant spaces -as the leather clad bathrooms- are contained in pods and treated as pieces of furniture rather than new rooms.
